TaeKwon-Do is a modern Martial art & method of Self-Defence which began in Korea.The techniques used within Taekwon-do draw on older martial arts from China, Korea and Japan. TaeKwon-Do takes these techniques and improves on them making them more effective and more powerful. The goal of Pentwyn TaeKwon-Do is to teach these Self-Defence skills whilst instilling confidence, self-control, improved co-ordination and all around fitness.
The club is currently run by 1st Degree Black-belt Mr Simon Woolston. Mr Woolston began training in TaeKwon-do in 1995. He has trained with several clubs in Buckinghamshire and London though he has always graded with Master Vella. Mr Woolston has competed in many competitions over the years for both patterns and sparing, winning his 1st competition at yellow belt. Mr Woolston also practices Muay Thai & Judo. In 2007 Mr Woolston attended "The Capital Institute of Physical Education" in Beijing, China's only institute of higher sports education specifically devoted to fostering elite athletes and instructors in the Martial Arts.
Pentwyn TaeKwon-Do is part of the "Vella TaeKwon-Do Institute.
The Head Instructor of the Institute is Master Tony Vella, a 7th Degree Black Belt with the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). He is an international instructor and grading examiner with all his grades and qualifications recognised by the ITF which has over 100 member countries. He has been training in Taekwon-do since 1982 and has been graded beginner to senior Instructor by Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha 9th Degree, the founder of Taekwon-do in the UK.
